THE EVIL DEAD DEFINITIVE TIMELINE

Premise: the timeline of the main Evil Dead universe is malleable/revisable and not fixed, as implied by AvED S.2 Episode #9 (Home again). Every time one character comes back in time, the timeline is rewritten in tune with the changes the time traveler applied to history. However, some events are “predetermined” and meant to happen, as the Book of the Dead retrieved by Professor Knowby or the five young guys going to the cabin for a holiday.

In the Evil Dead universe, time is like a river. You can throw a pebble in and create a ripple, but the current always corrects itself. No matter what you do, the river just keeps flowing in the same direction. Only one big “splash”, a huge change like the one occurring in AvED S.2 Episode #10 (Second coming), may modify the flux of the continuum to the point history is radically altered.

Each cycle “1982/1300” propagates minimal and not consistent revisions along the timeline – Butterfly Effect type - and this adjusts the events of The Evil Dead/Evil Dead II.

Basically, time adaptation interwined with Ash’s mnemonic rearrangement can fix all incongruences in the Evil Dead saga and fill the gaps.

Timeline One (Before the Trilogy)

1100 b.C. – The Necronomicon Ex Mortis (Book of the Dead), also known as Naturum Demonto, is written in Sumeria by the Dark Ones, when the seas turned into “red blood”.

1500 d.C. – The Book of the Dead mysteriously disappears.

No Ash: without Ash’s intervention, the Evil Dead manages to pollute the land much longer and destroy thousands of lives along the way.

1958 – Ashley Joanna “Ash” Williams 1 is born, son of Brock Williams and brother of Cheryl.

1981 – Professor Raymond Knowby, an archeologist, finds the Necronomicon and the Dagger in the ruins of the Kandar Castle (England). His personnel in the expedition: his wife Henrietta; Dr. Anne “Annie” Knowby, his daughter; Dr. Edward “Ed” Getley, his assistant.

In the while, the guardian/housekeeper of the Knowby Cabin starts to secretly and illegally rent the log house to strangers.

1982 – Professor Knowby and Henrietta go back to the United States.

Week One Day One 1982 – Knowby retires in his cabin in order to study the Book of the Dead.

Week One Day Two 1982 – Corrupted by the power of the Necronomicon, Knowby unleashes the Evil Dead. Henrietta is then possessed. After a big struggle, Knowby manages to trap the Deadite in the cellar.

Week One Day Four 1982 – Knowby calls Ed Getley and his student Tanya from a civilized place near the woods. He doesn’t reveal anything to both.

Meanwhile, the Dark One known as Ruby has traced the Necronomicon back to Michigan, where Knowby headed to. She is investigating at Elk Grove.

Week One Day Six 1982 – Tanya reaches the cabin. Knowby plans to use the girl to make the Evil Dead transmigrate from within Henrietta onto her, but the ritual doesn’t work as hoped. Henrietta is mistakenly believed to be human again for some minutes and freed from her chains. Tanya is then slaughtered by the Deadite. Knowby apparently kills Evil Henrietta with a gun and her body is quickly disposed of in the aftermath by the archeologist.

Week One Day Seven (1° October) 1982 – Following these terrible events, Knowby chooses to escape away from the cabin. Presumably, he dies in a car accident while driving in the woods. The car we can see upside down and stuck in the swamp at the beginning of The Evil Dead is his.

So some days pass by… until…

Week Two Day Five 1982 – Ash 1, Linda, Scott, Shelly and Cheryl Williams go to the Knowby Cabin located in the woods within Elk Rapids (Michigan).

Week Two Day Six 1982 – A slightly different version of the events of The Evil Dead occurs.

Week Two Day Seven 1982 – A slightly different version of the events of Evil Dead II occurs. At the very end of the fight with Rotten Apple Head, Ash 1 is absorbed by the Nexus summoned by Annie.

He eventually materializes in 1300 A.D. near the Kandar Castle. The specific Hero of the Sky Ending of Evil Dead II happens at this point, the exact way you see on-screen. Timeline 2 is thus created.

Timeline Two (The Evil Dead Duology)

1100 b.C. – The Necronomicon Ex Mortis (Book of the Dead), also known as Naturum Demonto, is written in Sumeria by the Dark Ones, when the seas turned into “red blood”.

1200 a.C. Ruby banishes the Dark Ones in the Netherworld forever. After many fights, the Knights succeed in stealing the Necronomicon from Ruby.

Month X+10 1300 a.C. – Ash 1 materializes in 1300 A.D., near the Kandar Castle. The specific Hero of the Sky Ending of Evil Dead II happens at this point, the exact way you see it on-screen. The Evil Dead has plagued the region for eleven months, the land has degraded and looks desertified, the Wiseman has been killed by the Deadites and a new wizard replaced him.

Timeline 2 is thus created.

1336 a.C. – Ash 1 (The Hero from the Sky) dies in the Middle Ages, after having spent the rest of his life battling the Evil Dead, now also known as Kandarian Demon. His image magically “appears” on the Necronomicon, the exact depiction you see on Evil Dead II.

1958 – Ashley Joanna “Ash” Williams 2 is born, son of Brock Williams and brother of Cheryl.

1981 – Professor Raymond Knowby, an archeologist, finds the Necronomicon and the Kandarian Dagger in the ruins of the Kandar Castle (England).

The castle: we can assume that the word Kandar doesn’t belong to the castle at all. Kandar is the real name of The Evil Dead, as evidenced by the incantation able to evoke the demon as well as by AvED S.3 Episode #10 (The mettle of man). It is possible that Knowby found the name written in the rear chamber where the Necronomicon has been stored/hidden and he just conveniently used it to address the castle in his recordings. Maybe the castle never had a real name in the very first place, because Lord Arthur would have wanted it to be “off the charts”, untraceable and not easily recognizable.

1982 – Professor Knowby and Henrietta go back to the United States.

Week One Day One 1982 – Knowby retires in his cabin in order to study the Book of the Dead.

Week One Day Two 1982 – Corrupted by the power of the Necronomicon, Knowby unleashes the Kandarian Demon a.k.a. The Evil Dead.

Log entry: on October 1st, 4:33 p.m, Knowby leaves one of his last log entries on the tape recorder. He retells the events surrounding Henrietta’s demise in a different way, in order to omit Tanya’s involvement.

So some days pass by… until…

Week Two Day Five 1982 – Ash 2, Linda, Scott, Shelly and Cheryl Williams go to the Knowby Cabin located in the woods within Elk Rapids (Michigan).

Week Two Day Six 1982 The Evil Dead occurs.

Memory: the brain of Ash suffers many psychological traumas and even contusions, to the point he will later remember the events of The Evil Dead in a twisted and approximative way, not 100% adhering to the reality of facts. Any discrepancies between The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II can be “explained” through memory rielaboration. We can theorize that - during the course of Evil Dead II - Ash remembers the events of the night before under the guise of a minimalist version plagued by several holes and false perceptions: he and his friends being slightly “younger”; different geography (Tennessee); different cabin planimetry; lack of most furniture; no piano; different cover and aspect for the Necronomicon and so on.

Basically The Evil Dead is the chronicle of the first night at the Knowby Cabin filtered by Ash’s damaged mind, once the ED2 Recap delusion has evaporated.

Truck: the mysterious force steering the Delta Oldsmobile 88 from the truck at the very beginning may be interpreted as the spirit of Ash 1, The Hero from the Sky (who died in 1336 d.C.), trying to alter the past and save the guys from certain death. Thus, we can assume that there are two spiritual forces roaming in the woods during the opening sequence of The Evil Dead: The Kandarian Demon (still in “sleep mode”) and the spirit of The Hero from the Sky.

Name: Ash recalls a wrong name for the Necronomicon, Naturan Demanto.

Week Two Day Seven 1982Evil Dead II occurs. At the very end of the fight with Rotten Apple Head, Ash 2 is absorbed by the Time Vortex summoned by Annie.

He eventually materializes in 1300 A.D. near the Kandar Castle.

By effect of the Nexus, whose nature is mystical, his presence effectively “replaces” the quantized existence of the “previous” Ash (Ashley J. Williams 1), the one who became The Hero from the Sky in the Evil Dead II ending segment (not truly connected to the movie Evil Dead II).

Army of Darkness occurs and Timeline 3 is thus created.

Sun: in AvED S.2 Episode #7 (Delusion), Ash mentions that in one past occurrence the Kandarian Demon had been drifted away from his host when exposed to sun and imbued with solar light. He is obviously referring to his first possession in Evil Dead II. Maybe in the initial phase of its “awakening mode”, the Kandarian Demon is always susceptible to sun, but after few days it overcomes this limit - as seen in Army of Darkness (the Pit Deadites). This would also justify the chant of Evil Ed and Evil Henrietta about the cabin inhabitants going to be “dead by dawn”.

Episode #7 even marks the only instance in the saga in which Ash clearly aknowledges the existence of an unique entity pulling the strings of all human bodies (Deadites) it possesses.

Bridge: the recap at the beginning of Evil Dead II depicts the flawed synthesis of memories that Ash’s mind created during the time he had been lying in the puddle, right after the Kandarian Demon had possessed him for the first time. That would explain why Ash totally forgets about the bridge having been converted into a giant hand. Once awaken, he indeed drives to the bridge again, unaware that it is not viable anymore (despite having previously experienced that with Cheryl on The Evil Dead).

Since his mind has temporarily suppressed the existence of Scott, Ash also doesn’t take in account the “secret path” which his best mate previously found out in the woods.

Ash has still some vague reminiscences of the fake recollections at the beginning of AvED S.2 Episode #9. This implies that even the subsequent “counterpart” of Ash in Timeline 3/4 experienced the same trauma.

Book in the fire: AvED S.1 Episode #4 (Brujo) establishes that the Necronomicon can’t be burnt or destroyed. So we must assume that Ash leaves it in the hearth right after the events of The Evil Dead and that the book didn’t truly melt as it seemed.

Recall: we can think that, some time after his run from the Kandarian Demon pursuing him in the woods, and before Evil Linda’s head would reappear and bite his right hand, Ash starts to recall the events of the night before, but still in a twisted and flawed way - as you see on The Evil Dead.

Piano: Ash’s piano playing may be a removed memory from the first night that Ash’s mind “incorporated” into the ED2 Recap delusion. The mysterious force playing the piano the exact way Ash did in the recap could be the spirit of The Hero from the Sky (Ash 1) once again interacting with our physical reality as it did at the beginning of The Evil Dead.

That would also explain why Ash later felt a “death omen” when Annie shows him for the first time the page of the Hero from the Sky. Indeed, the previous version of himself had died in the Middle Ages.

Time mechanisms: the model of time travel is a variant of the one featured on Stephen King’s novel 11/22/63. Each “subsequent” Ash replaces the antecedent version within the Nexus, then “resets” the timeline and nullifies all changes made on the previous excursion.

Timeline Three (Army of Darkness)

1100 b.C. – The Necronomicon Ex Mortis (Book of the Dead), also known as Naturum Demonto, is written in Sumeria by the Dark Ones, when the seas turned into “red blood”.

X a.C. – In the Necronomicon, the prophecy of The Chosen One magically appears written on a page, time before Ash 2 would operate in the Middle Ages.

1000 a.C. – The Order of the Knights of Sumeria (KoS) is formed.

1200 a.C. Ruby banishes the Dark Ones in the Netherworld forever. After many fights, the Knights succeed in stealing the Necronomicon from Ruby.

Decades later, a KoS necromancer called Kaya betrays the Knights and contacts Ruby, willing to make the Demon Woman reconcile with the Book of the Dead. Thus, Kaya steals the Necronomicon. In an unspecified English region, she settles into an unholy cemetery where she creates some “traps” (the fake Necronomicons) for unwanted visitors. Something goes wrong in the process anyway, and Kaya is absorbed by the Necronomicon.

The book is lost in the region of Lord Arthur’s castle, but Ruby doesn’t know its location.

Month X 1300 a.C. – Ash 2 materializes in 1300 A.D., near the Kandar Castle. In this iteration, he manifests himself at least ten months before than Ash 1. The awakening of the Kandarian Demon has just happened, the castle is still in its prime, the vegetation flourishes and there’s the original Wiseman as wizard of the king.

Army of Darkness occurs.

Timeline 3 is thus created.

Retelling: the recap at the beginning of Army of Darkness is Ash’s wild and raw attempt to summarize his story to Chet Kaminski (AoD version). After all, many episodes on Ash vs Evil Dead depict Ash as an unreliable narrator.

White streak: this time, by effect of different energies running through the “spires” of the Nexus, Ash’s physiology is “rewinded” to few hours back. His hair are rejuvenated and the white streak on the left side vanishes.

Wrist watch: Ash was wearing the wrist watch before Evil Henrietta would throw him through the ladder of the fruit cellar; he must have lost it at that point.

The wrist watch - broken, damaged and lying in the cellar - is later invested by the time-reversal energies of the Nexus; a “temporal copy” is instantaniously created and incorporated into Ash’s persona the way it was supposed to be few hours before.

Fusion: Army of Darkness marks the only time in the saga in which the Kandarian Demon clones Ash from the inside, through a process of fusion. The unusual and intimate replication would imbue the Kandarian Demon with Ash’s motley and lunatic imagination based on pop culture fantasies. Bad Ash is the immediate product of the absorption.
In the Cemetery, Ash starts to experience “slapstick hallucinations” induced by the Evil Dead, at that point “intoxicated” by Ash’s mental visions acquired via fusion.
That’s the reason why  - in the second half of AoD - the Deadites are way less brutal and displaying an “human-like” behaviour.

As implied by AvED S.1 Episode #4, Ash was a TV addicted of some sort during his childhood.

Sleep: taking in account the modus operandi depicted by the aborted Post-Apocalyptic Ending of AoD, we learn that Ash just ingests the mystical serum while hidden in an abandoned cave and then awoke in the “present time” England, after six centuries of hibernation.

1350 a.C. – Wiseman modifies the Kandarian Dagger through the use of mystical energies, in order to make it more effective against demonic forces. The final result is the Dagger version AvED.

1400 a.C. – Ruby slaughters the Knights of Sumeria. Only few of them survive, including Dalton’s ancestors. Ruby still doesn’t know the exact location of the Necronomicon in the entire world.
1958 – Ashley Joanna “Ash” Williams 3 is born, son of Brock Williams and brother of Cheryl. In the while, Ash 2 (from Army of Darkness) is sleeping in the cave near the castle.

1981 – Professor Raymond Knowby, an archeologist, finds the Necronomicon and the Kandarian Dagger in the ruins of the Kandar Castle (England).

Week One Day Two 1982 – Corrupted by the power of the Necronomicon, Knowby unleashes the Kandarian Demon a.k.a. The Evil Dead.

Week Two Day Five 1982 – Ash 3, Linda, Scott, Shelly and Cheryl Williams go to the Knowby Cabin located in the woods within Elk Rapids (Michigan). In the while, Ash 2 (from Army of Darkness) is sleeping in the cave near Kandar.

Week Two Day Six 1982 – The AvED version of The Evil Dead occurs.

Week Two Day Seven 1982 – AvED Evil Dead II occurs. At the very end of the fight with Rotten Apple Head, Ash 3 (the AvED Ash) is absorbed by the Time Vortex summoned by Annie.

He eventually materializes in 1300 A.D. near the Kandar Castle.

By effect of the Nexus, whose nature is mystical, his presence effectively “replaces” the quantized existence of the “previous” Ash (Ashley J. Williams 2), the one who became The Chosen One in Army of Darkness.

Week Three Day One 1982 – Ash 2 (The Chosen One) awakes in England. Later, helped by UK authorities, he comes back to America.

The S-Mart Ending occurs, before the Ripple Effect caused by Ash 3 (the AvED Ash) would catch up.

Dream: the Post-Apocalyptic Ending of AoD is just a dream that Ash 2 had during his stasis.

Scars: in the S-Mart Ending, we see that Ash 2 still retains his scars. That strongly hints at the oneiric nature of the Post-Apocalyptic Ending, where he had no visible scars whatsoever and displayed cartoonishly long mane and beard.

Then, Ash 3 (the AvED Ash, El Jefè) lives his adventure in the Middle Ages and Timeline 4 is thus created. Ash 2 and the S-Mart Ending are erased when the Ripple Effect reaches the year 1982.

Timeline Four (Ash vs Evil Dead Season 1/2)

1100 b.C. – The Necronomicon Ex Mortis (Book of the Dead), also known as Naturum Demonto, is written in Sumeria by the Dark Ones, when the seas turned into “red blood”.

X a.C. – In the Necronomicon, the prophecy of the Chosen One magically appears written on a page, time before Ash 3 would operate in the Middle Ages.

Prophecy: Ruby reveals this in AvED S.1 Episode #10 (The Dark One).

In an unspecified English region, she settles into an unholy cemetery where she creates some traps” (the fake Necronomicons) for unwanted visitors. Something goes wrong in the process anyway, and Kaya is absorbed by the Necronomicon.

The book is lost in the region of Lord Arthurs castle, but Ruby doesn’t know its location.
1300 a.C. – Ash 3 a.k.a. El Jefè materializes in 1300 A.D., near the Kandar Castle.

Timeline 4 is thus created.

1350 a.C. – As in the previous iteration, Wiseman modifies the Kandarian Dagger through the use of mystical energies, in order to make it more effective against demonic forces. The final result is the Dagger version AvED.

1400 a.C. – Ruby slaughters the Knights of Sumeria. Only few of them survive, including Daltons ancestors. Ruby still doesn’t know the exact location of the Necronomicon in the entire world.
1958 – Ashley Joanna “Ash” Williams 3 is born, son of Brock Williams and brother of Cheryl.

1981 – Professor Raymond Knowby, an archeologist, finds the Necronomicon and the Kandarian Dagger in the ruins of the Kandar Castle (England).

Week One Day Two 1982 – Corrupted by the power of the Necronomicon, Knowby unleashes the Kandarian Demon a.k.a. The Evil Dead.

Presumably, he dies in a car accident while driving in the woods, and the car we can see upside down and stuck in the swamp at the beginning of The Evil Dead is his.

So some days pass by… until…

Week Two Day Five 1982 – Ash 3, Linda, Scott, Shelly and Cheryl Williams go to the Knowby Cabin located in the woods within Elk Rapids (Michigan).

Week Two Day Six 1982 – The AvED version of The Evil Dead occurs.

Week Two Day Seven 1982 – AvED Evil Dead II occurs. At the very end of the fight with Rotten Apple Head, Ash 3 is absorbed by the Nexus summoned by Annie.

Replacement: the cycle of quantum replacement is disrupted by Ash 2 managing to resurface from hibernation for a brief time in 1982. So the cycle eventually stabilizes itself with having Ash 3 either in the Middle Ages and in the current time (1982), without generating a “version 5” of the Evil Dead events. The timeline doesn’t change anymore; it’s finally a coherent and full circular loop.

Cabin: the Nexus, once had absorbed Ash and the Oldsmobile, keeps expanding for a while in 1982 and then gradually shrinks backward. While still inflating, its energies – the same ones that rejuvenated Ash – “rewinds” the status of the cabin to few hours back, regenerating the damaged external walls and the cut cellar door. The time-reversal effect also creates “temporal copies” of some components which were previously torn apart: the main door; the seesaw and the smoke outlet.

Week Three Day One 1982 – Ash 3 comes back from the Middle Ages, re-materializing near the Knowby Cabin after just one day since his original time displacement. He retrieves the Necronomicon to keep it far from dangerous individuals.

Week Three Day Two 1982 – Ruby arrives at the Knowby Cabin too late. Ash is gone and she doesn’t even know his identity or what did happen at the place.

1983 – After a brief stint at Elk Grove - where he is believed to be a serial killer and nicknamed Ashy Slashy – Ash 3 begins to move from one place to other across Michigan, being employed in various ValueStop residences.

2012 – Brock Williams (aged 75) hides a “secret” in the cellar of his hardware store.
2015Ash vs Evil Dead Season 1 occurs.

2016Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episodes #1-8 occur.

In S.2 Episode #9, Ash 3 wants to travel back to 1982 in order to change history again and save Pablo…

Timeline 5 is thus created.

Plan: Baal’s plan is to retrieve the Necronomicon Ex Mortis from the past and, at the same time, get rid of Ash and his supporters forever. Besides, he isn’t interested into dealing with the “human version” of Ruby 2016 at all and just wants “his” Ruby back, the Dark One who fell in love with him.

Timeline Five - Alternate (Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episodes #9/10)

1100 b.C. – The Necronomicon Ex Mortis (Book of the Dead), also known as Naturum Demonto, is written in Sumeria by the Dark Ones, when the seas turned “red blood”.

1300 a.C. – The materialization of Ash 3 (El Jefè) in 1300 A.D. has been retroactively erased by the Ripple Effect starting in 1982 and propagating backwards.

1958 – Ashley J. “Ash” Williams 3 is born, son of Brock Williams and brother of Cheryl.

1981 – Professor Raymond Knowby, an archeologist, finds the Necronomicon and the Kandarian Dagger in the ruins of the Kandar Castle (England).

Week One Day Two 1982 – Corrupted by the power of the Necronomicon, Knowby unleashes the Kandarian Demon a.k.a. The Evil Dead. Henrietta is then possessed. After a big struggle, Knowby manages to trap the Deadite in the cellar.

Week One Day Four 1982 – Knowby calls Ed Getley and his student Tanya from a civilized place near the woods. He doesn’t reveal anything to both.

Meanwhile, the Dark One known as Ruby (1982 version) has traced the Necronomicon back to Michigan, where Knowby headed to. She is investigating at Elk Grove.

Week One Day Six 1982 – Ash 3, Kelly Maxwell and Ruby 2016 materialize in 1982 A.D.

Knowby tries to use his student Tanya to make the Kandarian Demon transmigrate from Henrietta but he’s stopped by El Jefè and later slaughtered by Ruby 1982.

Ruby 2016 (Ruby 1) is unfortunately killed by Ruby 1982 (Ruby 2).

Week One Day Seven (1° October) 1982 After a big fight between Ash 3 and Baal, a corollary of the deal between the Prophesized One and the demon turns the Knowby Cabin into a “nexus” between the Alternate Timeline and the Primary Timeline. The mystical explosion of the Knowby Cabin actually “occurs” in the Primary Timeline year 2016, thus Ash and Kelly are automatically transferred to their present time in the Primary Timeline.

Pablo resurrects.
The Alternate Timeline vanishes, while the Primary Timeline stays uncontaminated and intact as before.

Note: the 2016’s Kandarian Dagger which the Ghost Beaters owned is also “deposited” among the ruins of the 2016’s Knowby Cabin, as well as the 2016’s Delta Oldsmobile and Knowby’s car from the Alternate Timeline.

Timeline Six (Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3)

1100 b.C. – The Necronomicon Ex Mortis (Book of the Dead), also known as Naturum Demonto, is written in Sumeria by the Dark Ones, when the seas turned into “red blood”.

X a.C. – In the Necronomicon, the prophecy of the Prophesized One magically appears written on a page, time before Ash 3 would operate in the Middle Ages.

Prophecy: Ruby 1 reveals this in AvED S.1 Episode #10 (The Dark One).

1000 a.C. – The Order of the Knights of Sumeria (KoS) is formed.

1200 a.C. – Ruby 1 banishes the Dark Ones in the Netherworld forever. After many fights, the Knights succeed in stealing the Necronomicon from Ruby 1.

Decades later, a KoS necromancer called Kaya betrays the Knights and contacts Ruby 1, willing to make the Demon Woman reconcile with the Book of the Dead.

The book is lost in the region of Lord Arthur’s castle, but Ruby 1 doesn’t know its location.

1300 a.C. – Ash 3 a.k.a. El Jefè materializes in 1300 A.D., near the Kandar Castle.

1350 a.C. – As in the previous iteration, Wiseman modifies the Kandarian Dagger through the use of mystical energies, in order to make it more effective against demonic forces. The final result is the Dagger version AvED.

1400 a.C. – Ruby 1 slaughters the Knights of Sumeria. Only few of them survive, including Dalton’s ancestors. Ruby 1 still doesn’t know the exact location of the Necronomicon in the entire world.

Meanwhile, the Dark One known as Ruby has traced the Necronomicon back to Michigan, where Knowby headed to. She is investigating at Elk Grove.

Week One Day Six 1982 – Tanya reaches the cabin. Knowby plans to use the girl to make the Kandarian Demon transmigrate from within Henrietta onto her, but the ritual doesn’t work as hoped. Tanya is killed in the process and her body quickly disposed of in the aftermath by the archeologist.

Week One Day Seven (1° October) 1982 – Following these terrible events, Knowby chooses to escape away from the cabin. Presumably, he dies in a car accident while driving in the woods, and the car we can see upside down and stuck in the swamp at the beginning of The Evil Dead is his.

So some days pass by… until…

Week Two Day One 1982 – Because some strange mystical occurrence, Ruby 2 from Timeline 5 materializes in the Primary Timeline as a “time remnant”. She wisely choses to not interfer with the timeline any further in order to ensure her own existence, since she is connected to the events of Season 2 and the related time travel. She keeps her presence undetected from 1982’s Ash and Ruby 1, watching the events of The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II from the woods surrounding the Knowby Cabin.

Someone is watching: Ruby 2 knew Ash had shot his sister Cheryl in the face, as evidenced by S.3 Episode 2 (Booth three). This is a detail Ruby 1 couldn’t know, since she arrived at the Knowby Cabin after the events of Evil Dead II.

Week Three Day Two 1982 – Ruby 1 arrives at the Knowby Cabin too late. Ash is gone and she doesn’t even know his identity or what did happen at the place. Ruby 2 is secretly watching her.

1983 – After a brief stint at Elk Grove - where he is believed to be a serial killer and nicknamed Ashy Slashy – Ash 3 begins to move from one place to other across Michigan, being employed in various ValueStop residences.

1999 – Ash marries Candace “Candy” Barr at Las Vegas. They together conceive Branson “Brandy” Barr, Ash’s daughter.

Ruby 2 has been stalking Ash for two decades at this point, taking snapshots of his activity, far from the Primary Timeline Ruby (Ruby 1) who doesn’t know about the existence of her alternate counterpart.

2012 – Brock Williams (aged 75) hides a “secret” in the cellar of his hardware shop.

2015Ash vs Evil Dead Season 1 occurs. Ruby 2 assumes the identity of Rebecca Prevett around this time.

2016Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episodes #1-8 occur.

In S.2 Episode #9, Ash 3 wants to travel back to 1982 in order to change history again and save Pablo…

Timeline 5 – Alternate is thus briefly created and then destroyed.

2016 – The ending of Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode #10 occurs. Ash 3, Kelly Maxwell and Pablo Simon Bolivar come back to their “present time”, and nothing has apparently changed: the new timeline resembles Timeline 4. Because the events of S.2 Episode #6 (Trapped inside), Elk Grove people hold a big town parade in celebration of Ash, now regarded as an iconic American hero of some sort.

Ruby 2/Prevett is among the crowd and she smiles...

2018Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 occurs. At the very end, Ash 3 defeats Kandar The Destroyer, an alternate physical manifestation of The Evil Dead. The demonic apocalypse unleashed by the Necronomicon dissipates once Ash defeats Kandar, fulfilling the prophecy and making humanity safe again. In the aftermath, only few big cities (the ones listed on TV) have been partially damaged.

A new, golden era for human race has begun.

2x18 – Ash 3 is awaken in the future. The Dark Ones just reappeared on Earth. Humanity needs the Prophesized One again...

  1. Awesome timeline! Just one small change. Can you edit the line : when the seas turned to "red blood" to the original line : " When the seas ran red with blood." Sorry if that sounds like gripe. Other than that I really like this, very cohesive and answers alot of questions about certain events. Thank you

  2. so is evil dead 1 & 2 non cannon because of 2.9 and 10's events or will that be explained ? because if their in a timeline where e.d 1 and 2 never happened then he shouldn't be a hero to the people etc.

  3. Where does the 2013 film fit in?

    1. Fede Álvarez stated on twitter that "it continues the first one. The coincidences on events between the first film and mine are not coincidences, but more like dark fate created by the evil book. (Ash car is still there rusting away.)" Sam Raimi backed this up in 2019, saying "I think that’s a part of the Evil Dead universe but not part of the Bruce Campbell storyline". When asked if this meant that the remake was another corner of the original universe, he said "exactly". Supposedly, Ash's car is rusting away outside the cabin according to the director. I suppose that perhaps the time portal created a copy of Ash's car, just like how it might have repaired the cellar door to how it is seen in the fourth film and TV series. The design of the cabin is different, which could either be magic or a visual continuity error. The cabin is set on fire while it is in perfect condition in the TV series. Once again, the magic of the house can explain why it still stands. Alternatively, this could be a different cabin, ignoring the director's comments and assuming that it was retconed, which helps tidy up any continuity errors. Echos from the past can be heard, as audio from The Evil Dead of Cheryl Williams saying "one by one, we will take you" is played. In the credits, Raymond Knowby's recording from Evil Dead 2 is played. In a post-credits scene, Ash Williams appears in a pitch black location, only stating "groovy" before turning to the camera.

The film has no dates but is likely set in 2013.

      As a bonus:
Within the Woods is a prototype of The Evil Dead. The Kandarian demon in this short film is known as Tinga. It is a Native American spirit that watches over the graves of the deceased in an Indian burial ground. After Bruce disturbs the grave of a medicine man by taking the knife he was buried with, Tinga turns the group into Deadites one by one. It has no indication of its timeline but can be placed in 1978.

    3. 1300 - Army of Darkness: Director's Cut
      1978 - Within the Woods
1982 - Ash vs Evil Dead 2x09-2x10 [Alternate 1982 Timeline]
      1982 - The Evil Dead
      1982 - Evil Dead 2
1982 - Army of Darkness (ending)
2013 - Evil Dead: Extended Cut
      2015 - Ash vs Evil Dead 1x01-1x10
      2016 - Ash vs Evil Dead 2x01-2x10
      2018 - Ash vs Evil Dead 3x01-3x10
      2023 - Evil Dead Rise
2095 - Army of Darkness: Director's Cut (ending)
2095 - Ash vs Evil Dead 3x10 (ending)

Bruce Campbell confirmed that the ending of Ash vs Evil Dead is the same timeline where Ash ends up in the director's cut of Army of Darkness. Whether it's a different timeline Ash or if Ash had an off-screen adventure where he found his way to the present I don't know.

  4. Um, it doesn't really mention, as far as I could tell, when Ruby met Baal and what happened between them. Surely he had to be somewhat present at some point to have seduced her to fall in love with him, so why did he have to be summoned by the demon spawn? Why was he in that hell dimension? Was he always there and for some reason, Ruby was in his dimension? I'm a little confused about the whole "They had demon spawn and were together at some point" plot-line.

  5. Nop, all of this is SOOOO WRONG.

There already are an OFFICIAL list about ALL the timelines / universes of The Evil Dead.

    So this is pure 💩

Sorry pal, but it is what it is.

The Evil Dead MULTIVERSE exists, and it is NOT how you think it is.

    Do BEST research next time.
